Designing a home these days is not just a question of aesthetics and appearance, the main emphasis is on the functionality and environmental impact. These considerations do not need to impede or reduce the creative aspect of the design process but they do have a direct impact.

Passive Home (or PassivHaus) design starts on day one, working closely with your Architect to provide a home that be better able to withstand the changes over its life. We can help provide a design that is thought through to the final day of construction and testing (our technical consultant may be the only qualified PassivHaus assessor and air tightness tester in the country). Beyond this we would consider the future and think through a strategy for achieving zero carbon when technology becomes more affordable

A Passive Home will need so little heating that fuel bills should never be a worry

A Passive Home will have improved air quality with Heat Recovery Ventilation

A Passive Home will have been assessed for overheating

A Passiv Home is the first, and most important step to a 'zero carbon' home

We are PassivHaus assessors. This is probably the most thorough and tested method of specifying low energy buildings in the world. At the heart of PassivHaus is air tightness and Heat Recovery Ventilation; Services and systems that we have been providing for years.

With changes to building regulations PassivHaus levels of performance are not that far away and so the gap from standard practice is growing smaller. The major difference will be the level of thought that goes into the design which should lead to a quicker and more efficient build.

Like all assessment methods PassivHaus still only considers the current environment. We will consider future changes to the climate, energy costs and the changing needs placed on the home. By doing so we hope to 'future proof'  and protect the investment made in the home.

For those wanting to reduce their overall footprint we can advise on low impact building systems working with our associate structural engineer, and incorporate integrated renewable energy systems for exemplary green homes.

We advise on all types of buildings and clients from individual self builds, eco holiday lodges, housing association homes and commercial buildings. In many projects we provide a holistic service, filling in the gaps between different professions and , most importantly, managing the transition through rapidly changing regulations.
