Building Regulations 2006 introduced new minimum standards for energy performance which are dealt with in SAP (Standard Assessment Procedure)

SAP takes into account the construction methods and materials, energy usage for space and water heating, appliances, lighting, etc. The introduction of air tightness testing requires building to be constructed to provide continuous insulation and to avoid heat loss through air leakage and thermal bridging. These improvements in construction standards must be incorporated at design stage.

SAP

  • CO2 emission rate calculations (DER)
  • Heat Loss calculations
  • Pressure testing for Air Permeability
  • The TER (Target Emission Rate) represents a 20% reduction in CO2 emissions from previous 2005 Building Regulations.
  • These targets are certainly going to be reduced in future Building Regulations (next edition 2010)
